Taxonomy
Raja primarmata was named by Woodward (1889). Its type specimen is BMNH P.4015-6, 49517, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Britobatos.

It was recombined as Britobatos primarmata by Claeson et al. (2013).
