Taxonomy
Ammonites numismalis was named by Quenstedt (1845) [Ammonites heterophyllus numismalis]. It is the type species of Tragophylloceras.

It was recombined as Tragophylloceras numismale by Hyatt (1900), Howarth and Donovan (1964), Meister (1986), Donovan and Surlyk (2003) and Meister et al. (2012).
