Pleurotomaria (Talantodiscus) trechmanni was named by Marwick (1953) [TYPE LOCALITY: GS 358, Hokonui Hills, Southland, New Zealand (Lower Aratauran: Hettangian). TYPE REPOSITORY: GNS, New Zealand].

It was recombined as Talantodiscus trechmanni by Begg and Grant-Mackie (2003).
