Pleurotomaria (Sisenna) hectori was named by Trechmann (1917). Its type specimen is BMNH BM G37475 and is a mold. Its type locality is Otamita Stream (Bed "C"), which is in a Carnian marine shale in New Zealand.
It was recombined as Pleurotomaria hectori by Begg and Grant-Mackie (2003).
