Alphadon lillegraveni was named by Eaton (1993). Its type locality is MNA 1067, Bulldog Bench, which is in a Cenomanian/Cenomanian crevasse splay mudstone in the Naturita Formation of Utah.
It was recombined as Eoalphadon lillegraveni by Eaton (2009).
