Stereotoechus was named by Duncan (1939) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Fras-u Sepkoski's reference number: 544,1000]. It is not extant. Its type is Stereotoechus typicus.

It was assigned to Trepostomata by Boardman (1960); and to Trepostomida by Sepkoski (2002).
