Taxonomy

Attelabus was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant. It is the type genus of Attelabides, Attelabinae, Attelabini.

It was assigned to Coleoptera by Linnaeus (1758), Linnaeus (1761), Geoffroy (1762), Scopoli (1763), Müller (1764), Schaeffer (1766), Linnaeus (1767), Drury (1770), Müller (1776) and Latreille (1796); to Eleuterata by Fabricius (1775) and Fabricius (1798); to Recticornes by Latreille (1802); and to Attelabina by Bouchard et al. (2011).
