Taxonomy
Eurysaurus schafferi was named by Arthaber (1924). Its type specimen is NHMW uncatalogued, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Cymatosaurus schafferi by Kuhn (1964); it was recombined as Cymatosaurus (Germanosaurus) schafferi by Kuhn (1971); it was recombined as Germanosaurus schafferi by Rieppel (1997).
