Ryderia was named by Wilton (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett-l J Plie-u Sepkoski's reference number: 93,715]. Its type is Leda renevieri.

It was reranked as Nuculana (Ryderia) by Melville (1956).

It was assigned to Nuculana by Melville (1956); to Nuculanidae by Vokes (1980); to Nuculoida by Sepkoski (2002); to Polidevciinae by Yin and McRoberts (2006); and to Polidevciidae by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
