Leda doris was named by d'Orbigny (1849).

It was recombined as Nucula doris by d'Orbigny (1850); it was recombined as Nuculana doris by Chen (1982); it was recombined as Ryderia doris by Chen (1982), Hollingworth et al. (1990) and Berndt (1998).
