Lobothyris clevelandensis was named by Ager (1956) [Lobothyris punctata clevelandensis]. Its type specimen is BMNH B.32486 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Eston Mine, which is in a Spinatum marine ironstone in the United Kingdom.
