Protocrisina was named by Ulrich (1890). Its type is Protocrisina exigua.

It was synonymized subjectively with Enallopora by Bassler (1953).

It was assigned to Idmoneidae by Bassler (1911); and to Cryptostomata by Sepkoski (2002).
