Bairdemys venezuelensis

Taxonomy
Podocnemis venezuelensis was named by Wood and Diaz (1971). Its type specimen is VF 1176, a shell (carapace), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Capa de Tortugas/Corralito, which is in a Miocene terrestrial horizon in the Urumaco Formation of Venezuela.

It was recombined as Bairdemys venezuelensis by Gaffney and Wood (2002), Riff et al. (2010), Sanchez-Villagra and Scheyer (2010), Weems and Knight (2013) and de la Fuente et al. (2014).
