Lithothamnium moreti was named by Lemoine (1927). It is extant.

It was misspelled as Lithothamnium moretii by Lakhanpal et al. (1976); it was recombined as Lithothamnion moreti by Lemoine (1927), Johnson (1957) and Hrabovsky et al. (2016).
