Eutemnospondyli was named by Schoch (2013) [Phylogenetic definition from Schoch (2013): The most inclusive clade containing Dendrerpeton acadianum and Mastodonsaurus giganteus but not Edops craigi.]. It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Schoch (2013).

It was assigned to Temnospondyli by Schoch (2013) and Schoch and Milner (2014).
