This clade includes many long-snouted Permian taxa and their Mesozoic relatives, comprising more than 95 of post-Palaeozoic temnospondyls.

Taxonomy
Eryopiformes was named by Schoch (2013) [Phylogenetic definition from Schoch (2013): The least inclusive clade containing Eryops megacephalus and Mastodonsaurus giganteus.]. It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Schoch (2013).

It was assigned to Rhachitomi by Schoch (2013).
