Glanochthon angusta was named by Schoch and Witzmann (2009). Its type specimen is GPIM-N 1217, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Odernheim, which is in an Asselian/Sakmarian terrestrial limestone in the Meisenheim Formation of Germany.
