Euglossa moronei was named by Engel (1999). Its type specimen is M-1149, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Morone Amber Collection), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
