Augochlora was named by Smith (1853). It is extant. It is the type genus of Augochloridae, Augochlorina, Augochloriti.

It was assigned to Augochloriti by Engel (2000); to Augochlorina by Engel (2001); and to Augochlorini by Engel et al. (2012).
