Taxonomy
Fenestrellina was named by d'Orbigny (1849) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise P Guad-u].

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Bacillariophyceae by Greville (1863).

It was assigned to Fenestellidae by Bassler (1953); and to Fenestrata by Sepkoski (2002).
