Nothofagidites acromegacanthus was named by Menendez and Caccavari (1975) [Botanical affinity: Fagaceae (Nothofagus (tipo brassii))]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is BAPB Prep. pal. N° 500, a seed repro (Pollen grain), and it is a 3D fossil preserving soft parts.

Colpos en número de (6) 7, con una profundidad de 2.3 (2.39) 2.5 µ y un engrosamiento de 0.5 (0.52) 0.6 µ, La exina con un espesor de 0.5 (0.55) 0.6 µ, se presenta cubierta de espinas de diámetro basal aproximadamente 0.6-0.9 µ en los polos de 0.3-0.4 µ en el ecuador y de 0.4 a 0.9 µ de largo, con una densidad de 72 (102.88) 109 en 100 µ² en los polos y de 97 (116.22) 133.7 en 100 µ² en el ecuador
