Taxonomy
Mesitius was named by Spinola (1851). It is extant. It is the type genus of Mesitiini.

It was assigned to Bethylinae by Ashmead (1893) and Kieffer (1905); to Bethylidae by Cockerell (1921) and Antropov (2014); and to Mesitiinae by Azevedo et al. (2018).
