Myrciophyllum tucumanensis was named by Anzótegui (2002). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is CTES-PB 10707 a y b, a leaf, and it is a compression preserving soft parts.

L. M. Anzótegui 2002Leaves simple, obovate, small to medium; apex acuminate, emarginate or rounded, base cuneate, petiolate. Margin entire. Venation pinnate, brochidodromous. Five to seven pairs of secondary veins opposite to subopposite, divergence angle moderaly acute to wide. intersecondary veins simple or compoud with admedial branching, emerging from the archs of secondary veins at under similar angles of secondaries. Tertiary veins with admedial branching, emerging from intersecondary or secondary veins at angles that range from acute to obtuse. Marginal ultimate venation with two or three rows of large areoles on apical region, one row of areoles near the base.
