Taxonomy
Hypoclinea constricta was named by Mayr (1868). Its type specimen is XXB 1794, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber.

It was recombined as Iridomyrmex constrictus by Wheeler (1915) and Spahr (1987); it was recombined as Anonychomyrma constricta by Shattuck (1992) and Heterick and Shattuck (2011); it was recombined as Yantaromyrmex constrictus by Dlussky and Dubovikoff (2013).
