Taxonomy
Hypoclinea sculpturata was named by Mayr (1868). Its type specimen is XXB 1194, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber.

It was recombined as Dolichoderus sculpturatus by Wheeler (1915), Dlussky (2002) and Bolton (2012).
