Camponotus novotnyi was named by Samsinak (1967). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Creek near Bechlejovice, which is in a Rupelian lacustrine - small diatomite in the Czech Republic.
It was recombined as Camponotites novotnyi by Boudinot et al. (2024).
