Taxonomy
Ectatomma gracile was named by Emery (1891). Its type specimen is MMUB 16629, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Sicilian amber (Bologna coll), which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in Italy.
It was recombined as Gnamptogenys gracile by Spahr (1987).
