Leptomyrmex maravignae was named by Emery (1891). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Sicilian amber (Bologna coll), which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in Italy. It is the type species of Leptomyrmula.
It was recombined as Leptomyrmula maravignae by Emery (1913) and Spahr (1987).
