Taxonomy
Peltocystida was named by Jefferies (1973). It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Lefebvre (2001).

It was assigned to Ankyroida by Parsley et al. (2000); and to Mitrata by Parsley (1991), Kolata et al. (1991), Lefebvre (2001), Lee et al. (2006) and Sumrall et al. (2012).
