Sphaeroidinellopsis was named by Banner and Blow (1959) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-u T Plio-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Globigerina seminulina.

It was assigned to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Globigerinidae by Snyder et al. (1983), Gibson (1983) and Lam and Leckie (2020).
