Taxonomy
Gnamptogenys levinates was named by Baroni Urbani (1980). Its type specimen is SMNS Do-926-K-1, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (SMNS coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
