Taxonomy
Strumigenys poinari was named by Baroni Urbani and de Andrade (2007). Its type specimen is Poinar H-10-220, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Poinar coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
