Taxonomy
Arietites was named by Waagen (1869) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Ammonites bucklandi. It is the type genus of Arietitinae.

It was reranked as Coroniceras (Arietites) by Meister and Friebe (2003) and Howarth (2013).

It was assigned to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Coroniceras by Meister and Friebe (2003) and Howarth (2013); and to Arietitinae by Bremer (1965) and Zaitsev and Ippolitov (2023).
