Taxonomy
Schloenbachia propinqua was named by Whiteaves (1884).

It was recombined as Lioceratoides (Pacificeras) propinquum by Smith and Tipper (1996); it was recombined as Tiltoniceras propinquum by Thomson and Smith (1992) and Howarth (2013).
