Celleporaria was named by Lamouroux (1821) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 606,1066]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Celleporariidae by Pouyet (2000); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lepraliellidae by Gordon et al. (1994), Schmidt (2003), Bock (2006) and Di Martino and Taylor (2015).
