Celleporina was named by Gray (1848) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 606]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Celleporidae by Brown (1952), Lee et al. (1997), Schmidt (2003), Berning (2006) and Bock (2006).
