Harpactea was named by Bristowe (1939). It is extant. It is the type genus of Harpacteinae.
It was assigned to Dysderidae by Dunlop et al. (2013) and Wheeler et al. (2017); and to Harpacteinae by Magalhaes et al. (2020).
