Cribrilaria was named by Canu and Bassler (1928) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 633]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cribrilinidae by Brown (1958), Berning (2006) and Bock (2006).
