Taxonomy
Phragmoteuthis ticinensis was named by Rieber (1970). Its type specimen is PIMUZ N/1 and is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Point 902, Monte San Giorgio, unspecified bed, which is in an Illyrian/Fassanian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal dolomite/shale in the Besano Formation of Switzerland.
