Taxonomy
Mesotipula brachyptera was named by Handlirsch (1920). It is an impression. Its type locality is Dobbertin, Mecklenburg (Greifswald collection), which is in a Toarcian offshore claystone in Germany. It is the type species of Mesotipula, Mesotipula (Mesotipula).

It was recombined as Mesotipula (Mesotipula) brachyptera by Kopeć et al. (2020).
