Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
M. J. Newman et al. 2011The median fin spines are reasonably long, c. 1/6 length of the fish, base length c. 1/4 spine length, with thick walls. The anal fin spine is positioned significantly posterior to the posterior dorsal fin spine. There are generally five prepelvic fin spines. The flank scales have a crown that is concave side to side, with 0-4 subparallel rounded ridges on the anterior half. Large lateral line scales are about four times the size of the normal scales, with a subcircular crown edge antero-laterally and sharp denticulations posteriorly. The main lateral line is edged by two rows of these enlarged scales which overlap to cover the main sensory canal.
