Binodicopa was named by Schallreuter (1972).

It was misspelled as Binodocopina by Crasquin and Horne (2018); it was corrected as Binodicopina by Liebau (2005), Mohibullah et al. (2013), Abushik (2015) and Zhang (2020).

It was assigned to Beyrichiocopa by Tinn and Meidla (2004); to Leperditellocopida by Abushik (2015); to Palaeocopida by Liebau (2005) and Crasquin and Horne (2018); and to Beyrichiocopida by Mohibullah et al. (2013) and Zhang (2020).
