Taxonomy
Cephalaspis lyellii was named by Agassiz (1835). Its type specimen is BMNH 20087, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was corrected as Cephalaspis lyelli by Woodward (1891) and Hay (1902).
