Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
E. W. Berry 1929They are ovate in profile, depressed, rounded on the back and concave on the front, eccentrically pointed at the end opposite the hilum and rounded at the hilar end. The hilum is conspicuous at the rounded end and toward the concave side of the seed, so that it is visible when the seed is viewed from the inner side as shown in the enlarged sketch. A pronounced keel starts as the pointed end expanding somewhat and becomind scarcely discernable as the hilum is approached. This keel is bordered on both sides by a depression, deepest toward the apex and extending downward about two.thirds of the distance toward the hilum, shallowing progressively and entirely absent in the lower third of the seed. These depressions possibly indicate a ruminating endosperm, but they are wider and shallower than for example in Vitis. The margins are rounded and the surface is rather fully inflated, smooth and bony. Length about 1 centimeter. Maximum width about 8 millimeters maximum thickness about 4 millimeters.
