Taxonomy
Scolytus poinari was named by Bright (1994). Its type specimen is UCMP C-7-232, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Poinar coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
