Huilatherium pluripicatum was named by Villarroel and Guerrero Diaz (1985). Its type specimen is ICN-P-328, a set of teeth, and it is a 3D body fossil.

Guerrero Diaz 1985Leontinid of brachidont upper molars, root well differentiated and long; protoloph little developed and slightly extended backwards; metaloph and posterior cingulum creates a deep fosset in a medio-lingual position; external limit of the fossa with small folds; the protoloph and the hypocone are separeted by a deep lingual indent; no internal cingulum, only in the anterolingual portion.

Colwell Danis 1997Dental formula 1.0.4.3/1.0.3.3; Upper I2 and lower i3 enlarged, procumbent; cingulum on incisors lacking; Upper I1, I3 and lower i1 and i2 and canine lacking; conspicuous incisor-premolar diastema, even in individuals with deciduous dentition; upper and lower premolars and molars hypsodont; premolars progressively molariform from P1-4/p2-4; small accessory ridge parallel to parastyle on upper P3; presence of single basin on anterior surface at lingual corner (leontiniid depression) on upper P2-4; posterior arm of hypofossete on upper M1-2 well developed; mesial (second) crista on upper M1-2 well develope; first crista weakly developed; enamel-lined pits constant and numerous in upper premolars and molars; protoconid well-developed, paraconid and metaconid weakly developed on lower p2-4; paraflexid progressively developed from lower m1-3; postfossetid U-shaped; hypolophulid lobe lengthened on m1-3. Juvenile dM3 and dM4are molariform and mesodont, possess well differentiated and long roots, weak protoloph, deep ´pstfossette positioned mesiolingually; lingual margin of the mesial crista with several small plications, few enamel-lined pits; lingual fold separating protocone and hypocone very deep; mesiolingual cingulum weak and restricted to the lingual one-half; internal cingulum lacking; dm1 small; dm2 smaller but similar to p2, its cingula are more developed; dm4 molariform with crown structure similar to upper M1 but with a shorter trigonid and well-developed lingual cingulum
