Taxonomy
Agaphora rara was named by Mostovski (1999). Its type specimen is PIN 3426/249, an exoskeleton (male fly), and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Taimyr Amber, Nizhnyaya Agapa River (PIN collection 3426), which is in a Cenomanian fluvial amber in the Dolgan Formation of the Russian Federation. It is the type species of Agaphora.
