Taxonomy
Plecia pristina was named by Hardy (1971). Its type specimen is UCMP 12878, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is UCMP B-7044, Quechula, which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in Mexico.
