Taxonomy
Paronellinae was named by Borner (1913). It is extant. Its type is Paronella.

It was reranked as the family Paronellidae by Mari Mutt and Bellinger (1990), Soto-Adames et al. (2008) and Sánchez-García and Engel (2016).

It was assigned to Entomobryidae by Christiansen (1971); to Collembola by Mari Mutt and Bellinger (1990); and to Entomobryoidea by Soto-Adames et al. (2008) and Sánchez-García and Engel (2016).
