Taxonomy
Tethepomyia buruhandi was named by Grimaldi and Arillo (2008). Its type specimen is MCNA 8821, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Peñacerrada outcrop I, which is in an Albian terrestrial amber in the Escucha Formation of Spain.
